MEDIA RELEASE

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / November 12, 2020) – Stillwater Electric Utility responded to a power outage.

Outage

Around 7:30 p.m. last night, a vehicle crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of Lakeview and Garfield. The pole supported a distribution circuit that supplies electricity to about 580 customers on the northwest side of town and portions of the 69,000 volt loop that feeds the Hospital and Central substations.

Upon impact, the protective relaying on the system performed as designed by clearing the fault causing several short duration power fluctuations. Electric crews responded quickly to isolate and de-energize the lines to make temporary repairs.

At around 10 p.m. crews de-energized approximately 580 customers to safely make temporary repairs. Restoration was completed at approximately 11 p.m. Outage time was about 1 hour.
