The City of Stillwater and the Stillwater Utilities Authority will be upgrading and improving the filter system at the Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
The current filters were constructed with the original WTP in the early 1980s. The new filters planned for the WTP will provide deeper beds for superior filtration, improved backwashing and better cleaning of the filter media for an overall higher quality of treated water.
February 7, 2017: Black and Veatch has been hired to provide conceptual design services.
September 6, 2017: Evaluation of the filters added to Black and Veatch's scope in order to optimize filtration and improve overall functionality.
March 12, 2018: After evaluation most of the process and chemical feed systems at the WTP, a priority has been assigned to each individual component. The Project Team will prepare a Facilities Plan to develop a conceptual and phasing plan for the work to include the filters.
September 4, 2018: Black and Veatch will complete a year of water quality testing before design work will proceed for the new filters. The results of the testing will also help the design team decide how best to modify the treatment scheme at the WTP in order to provide the highest water quality possible in the distribution system.
January 10, 2019: Pilot testing equipment has been installed in the Finished Water Pump Station. Samples will be gathered throughout 2019, to determine biological stability and ozone dosage requirements under various operating schemes.
June 17, 2019: Pilot tests continue and have been expanded to include a lead and copper testing component. The filter rate pilot unit was delivered in May, began operating on June 1st and will continue through the end of September 2019. The remaining tests are anticipated to continue through the first part of 2020.
