City Engineering

City Engineering is responsible for promoting high-quality, safe and efficient transportation infrastructure within the community. We oversee the design and construction of multi-modal transportation improvements, identifying safety and functional deficiencies in existing transportation systems and designing corrective solutions as budget allows.

Stormwater services is a division of the department that includes the evaluation of complementary stormwater improvements to increase the lifespan of transportation systems and benefit citizens’ quality of life. Department personnel will assist with the fulfillment of City environmental and infrastructure objectives.Tasks will include the evaluation and design of corrective improvements and the continued search for stormwater funding sources to meet City needs. 

City Engineering Projects:

  • Asset Management: Projects that inventory existing infrastructure including pavement, bridges and bridge structures, signage and traffic signal systems in order to help prioritize projects. Example projects that result from the inventory and needs assessment include annual pavement management program projects, bridge inspection and rehabilitation, signage improvements, and traffic signal improvements.   • Safety and Mobility: Projects that address safety needs within the transportation system and improve mobility for all modes of transportation including motorized and non-motorized forms of transportation. Example projects include corridor signal timing plans to improve traffic flow, intersection improvement projects, and sidewalk projects.

  • Corridor Improvements: Major road, bridge and intersection improvement projects. Recent projects include University Avenue (Monroe to Knoblock), U.S. Route 177 (Perkins Road) (Richmond to Yost), and Jardot Road (19th to McElroy).

The City is responsible for the following:

  • 440+ lane miles of asphalt and concrete pavements.

  • 28 bridges 

  • 65 signalized intersections, which include traffic signals for all approach lanes and turn lanes, hardware for operation and communication between signals.

  • 8,000+ traffic signs including stop signs, speed limits, street names and advisory signs.

  • 30+ miles of bike facilities, including share the road routes and bike lanes.

OK State Highway 51 (6th Avenue) & U.S. Route 177 (Perkins Road)

  • The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is responsible for enhancing and repairing SH-51 and US-177 (Perkins Road, and Washington Street from Airport to Richmond).
