Northern Oklahoma is primarily made up of range land, crop lands, forests and pastures. In this area of the country when the heat of summer takes its grip on Oklahoma, grass fires become almost inevitable.
It can be difficult for firefighters to extinguish these fires when the temperatures are high and the humidity is low. When drought conditions exist, water sources can be difficult to locate in some parts of the state. This can increase the deadly potential fires can have in this area.
