We operate numerous outdoor warning sirens across city limits and on the Oklahoma State University campus. Each siren is positioned roughly one-half mile from another. These sirens will activate if there is a threat of a tornado entering the Stillwater area. The sirens are in place to warn people who are outside of buildings and are not meant to be heard indoors.
There will be a steady tone for 3 minutes, followed by an announcement describing the situation at hand.
There will not be an all-clear siren because it can create confusion.
These sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. (weather permitting). If unable to test on the day of scheduled testing, it will be rescheduled for the following Thursday or the next Tuesday.
